Slavery, Debt and Ministry

You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.  (1 Corinthians 7:23 ESV)

I think (my opinion) that this also applies to credit card debt, car loans, etc.  Debt enslaves us.  It cripples us, it puts limitations on what we can do.  Many people have felt a call to mission service, but have been unable to go because of debt.  Many young seminary graduates are unable to take a position in a small church because of school loans.

My advice is to be patient.  Save up money for that big purchase.  Work through school slowly if need be.  Find alternate means of educating yourself (mentorships, lay institutes, internet/distance education, etc.).  Be willing and available to go wherever the Spirit prompts you to go.

This particular post is a “learn from my mistakes” post.  Do as I say, not as I’ve done.
