For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.(Romans 1:18 ESV)
In our time we have focused so much on the love of God (1 John 4:7-8) that we sometimes forget that God is indeed angry at sin. We talk about “being saved”, but saved from what? Not simply saved from sin, but from the consequences of sin, namely that wrath of an almighty and just God against sin. God’s anger is not selfish or arbitrary but represents his holy and loving response to human wickedness.
Yes, God is love (not just loving). It is the love of God that causes Him to pour out His grace upon us (in the form of sacrifice of His Son on our behalf) and save us from His wrath.
